AmaVida is a boutique river ship built in 2013, purpose-designed for the Douro — one of Europe's most celebrated wine rivers, winding through the terraced vineyards of northern Portugal and across the border into Spain. Dining on AmaVida

AmaVida serves all meals in the included Main Restaurant, an open-seating dining room where regional cuisine is paired with river views and the kind of relaxed, informal atmosphere that river cruising does best.

For something more considered, The Chef's Table offers a multi-course tasting menu prepared by a dedicated chef in an intimate setting — culinary theatre at no extra charge. Both dining experiences are included in your fare, so there are no surprise bills at the end of the evening.

The Specialty Coffee & Tea Station operates on a self-service, complimentary basis throughout the day — ideal before an early morning excursion or as an afternoon pause between ports.

Bars, lounges and social spaces

The Main Lounge is where the ship gathers: cocktails at the bar, port talks from the expedition team before each destination, and live entertainment in the evenings. Drinks are charged separately unless you hold a beverage package, but the space itself is open to everyone.

When you want quiet, the Library provides a small but well-stocked retreat with books and games — useful on the longer stretches of river between stops.

On-deck life and activities

The Sun Deck is AmaVida's outdoor living room: open, unobstructed, and wide enough to take in the full panorama of the Douro Valley as the ship passes through its gorges and vineyards. On warmer days you can dine up here, and the Heated Sun-Deck Pool — with its swim-up bar — makes the upper deck genuinely usable even when the weather is cool.

A Walking Track wraps the Sun Deck for anyone wanting to keep a morning routine, and the Fitness Centre below carries modern cardio and strength equipment at no charge (specialist classes carry a separate fee).

One of the more distinctive features of AmaVida is the Complimentary Bicycle Fleet. Bikes are free for all guests and are the most rewarding way to explore the flat riverside paths between quintas and villages — no guided tour required, no extra charge.

The Massage & Hair Salon rounds out the onboard offer; the spaces are accessible to all guests, with treatments and services priced individually.

Cabins on AmaVida

Suite S (30 m²) is the largest accommodation on the ship, with a private balcony and noticeably more living space than the grades below it.

Balcony Stateroom A (20 m²) sits on the highest cabin deck, giving it the best river sightlines and the most direct access to the Sun Deck above.

Outside Cabin D (15 m²) occupies the lowest and most stable deck position — the preferred choice for guests who want to minimise any sense of movement and enjoy a quieter, more sheltered berth.

Where AmaVida sails

All current sailings navigate the Douro River between Portugal and Spain — a route that passes through the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Alto Douro Wine Region, stopping at towns such as Régua, Pinhão and Salamanca depending on the itinerary. Most cruises are up to seven nights, departing from Porto or Vega de Terrón.
