Behind a good steak, seafood is arguably the next best indulgence when eating out. Pair a well-dressed piece of salmon, sea bass or hake with such accompaniments as gremolata, braised cabbage or baked rosemary potatoes, and you’ve got a dish that’s truly hard to beat.

Understanding that seafood is one of the most popular dishes among holidaymakers, cruise lines go to great lengths to supply the freshest and finest seafood available. If you’ve a penchant for all things fishy, here’s a shortlist of the cruise lines which offer the best seafood at sea.

Norwegian Cruise Line

Fresh seafood takes many forms aboard Norwegian Cruise Line ships — from delicate cuts of tuna wrapped in a sushi roll, to steamed mussels served alongside freshly baked bread. Diners will find seafood dishes in several eateries across the NCL fleet, including speciality French restaurant, Le Bistro, and the main dining room. For the ultimate indulgence however, we’d recommend the Waterfront’s gourmet lobster rolls.

Princess Cruises

Princess Cruises is renowned for its eclectic range of speciality restaurants, and is a great example of a line that caters to all culinary tastes. No matter how you like your seafood served, Princess is sure to have the perfect dish for you. One of our favourite places to sample seafood is Sabitini’s, an authentic Italian restaurant whose menu truly evokes the spirit of La Dolce Vista. For the ultimate seafood feast, start with the Calamari Fritti before moving on to the Tris d’Aragosta — lobster cooked three ways.

Cunard

World-renowned for its fastidious approach to food; Cunard arguably serves some of the best seafood at sea. Dine out in the Queens Grill, and you can indulge in a variety of decadent seafood plates — including Crab & Baby Shrimp Thermidor in a Parmesan Brioche and Lobster Americaine Flambe with Cognac, Truffle and Wild Mushroom Risotto. The Cunard fleet also features a number of speciality restaurants, where guests can enjoy an eclectic roster of seafood dishes served in a number of unique ways.

Holland America Line

Holland America Line certainly have their finger on the pulse when it comes to designing and creating contemporary dining experiences for their passengers. Book a table in the Pinnacle Grill speciality restaurant, and you can tuck into a fabulous array of seafood courses amid stylish surroundings. We’d recommend the Lobster Bisque with Crème Fraiche and Aged Cognac to start, followed by a main course of Cedar Planked Halibut with Shrimp Scampi in a roasted garlic and cilantro butter.

Celebrity Cruises

Luxury and decadence goes into every aspect of the Celebrity Cruises holiday experience, and this attention detail doesn’t stop with the food. The Celebrity fleet plays host to an extraordinary array of speciality eats, allowing passengers to sample exquisitely prepared seafood plates from across the globe. One of our favourite places to graze on fish is The Porch — an ultra cool club lounge whose menu is awash with contemporary seafood dishes such as the Classic Lobster Roll and the imposing Seafood Tower.
