Fuerte Amador is a small Pacific island which is known as the gateway to Panama City. A one-mile man made causeway connects four small islands. In the colourful city of Willemstad, experience the hospitality of the inhabitants. After the discovery by the Spaniards in the 16th Century, the island was conquered by the Dutch. There is a distinctly Dutch feel about Willemstad, complete with waterways and charming street cafes. In the old town, you will find picturesque colonial-style buildings as well as historic fortifications which all add to the design which has won Willemstad UNESCO Heritage Site designation.
