The 1,500-square-foot island was discovered in 1606 by the Portuguese navigator Pedro Fernández de Quirós. It is the southernmost island of the island nation of Vanuatu. The official name of the island is actually Inyeug, but to all the budding adventurers it's known as Mystery Island. The Mystery Island's coastline is dominated by crystal clear waters and white sand beaches. Numerous water sports facilities and beautiful natural scenery make the stay at Mystery Island a special experience. You can meet and mingle with the locals who flock from the surrounding islands to sell trinkets and goods at little stalls.

With an area of 1,200 square km, Lifou is the largest atoll in the Loyalty Islands and belongs to New Caledonia.
