Royal Caribbean has made steps to transform its current shore excursion offering, creating seven distinct tour packages that will help guests choose the excursion or day trip that most appeals to them.
The Florida-based cruise line has announced plans to create a whole new shore excursion programme, complete with seven unique interest categories, including Action Adventures, Family Connections, Royal Tour Challenge, Culture and Sights, Culinary Delights, Caring Discoveries and the Royal Premium Tour Collection. Royal Caribbean hopes the new programme will help guests better choose the trips that interest them.
Currently, the cruise line operates 2,800-plus unique shore excursions across the globe. Under the new tour packages programme, these excursions will be split into the seven categories listed above, something that should help guests differentiate between trips and make an informed decision on the shore excursion that’s right for them.
For adrenaline-junkies and thrill-seekers, the Active Adventures category will feature a comprehensive range of heart pumping activities – from dune buggy driving to rappelling exotic waterfalls.
Meanwhile, parents travelling with young children may be better suited to the Family Connections category. Here, they can cherry pick from a selection of child friendly activities, including wildlife spotting tours and trips to historic and educational visitor centres.
Then, there’s the Royal Tour Challenge category, which is specifically developed for those with a competitive streak. Choose this category, and cruise passengers will be pitted against each other during a series of fun challenges – including five-a-side football tournaments and laser tag contests.
For a more refined cruise experience, the Culture and Sights category features hundreds of intriguing excursions that will introduce you to new sights and sounds, no matter where you are in the world.
Alternatively, for those interested in sampling exotic local cuisine during their cruise break, the Culinary Delights category provides the perfect opportunity to wine and dine on authentic, locally produced fare during port call.
The Caring Discoveries category was created amid a surge in the popularity of social impact travel – in which cruise passengers give up some of their time to help local community projects. Choose this category for the chance to save sea turtles in Mexico, or help farmers sow their crop in the Caribbean.
