Tennis fans are in for an absolute smash! Heralding the start of the Grand Slam season, the Australian Open is undoubtedly one of the tennis must-sees of the year. For those looking to experience the tournament in a different way, you’re in luck: P&O Cruises have announced a package that’s purpose-built for diehard tennis fans.

An array of tennis-themed activities are planned for the cruises, to whet the appetite of sports fans on board. Tennis personalities will be present on deck, providing talks and meet-n-greets. If you’re lucky, these tennis experts might even serve up an on-court tip or two for those looking to improve their game during the cruise.

Sture Myrmell, President of P&O Cruises and Carnival Australia, said these sought-after cruises were ideal for fans of the sport looking for a unique tennis experience: “Australia is a great sporting nation and the Australian Open Grand Slam is one of the highlights on the sporting calendar. Fans are choosing to make more than a day of it, combining their love of tennis with a short break for a truly memorable experience. Our tennis cruises are so popular, we added an extra sailing for 2018.”

Though both ships will arrive in Melbourne as the on-court action starts to heat up, they’ll depart from Sydney, allowing guests the chance to sit back, relax and enjoy themselves before the tournament is in full swing. Even so, fans will be treated all-day and all-night to matches broadcast on the big screen, while Pacific Explorer guests can treat themselves to a tennis-themed tea, complete with all the centre-court trappings such as strawberries and creams, scones and savouries, all washed down with lashings of Pimms and Champagne. Pacific Eden guests can even try their hand on the outdoor tennis court, located on the ship’s top deck.

That’s not all, while both ships are in port at Melbourne, there’ll be day and night sessions at Melbourne Park, meet and greets with the players and plenty of opportunities for photos with the Australian Open trophy itself.

Even better news – places on board next year’s Australian Open itineraries are already available. The Pacific Eden and the Pacific Explorer will be departing Sydney for Melbourne on January 17 and January 19 respectively – fares include general admission tickets for two day sessions and one night session at the Australian Open with return transfers to Melbourne Park.
