The MS Europa has been named the best cruise ship in the world for a 13th consecutive year.
The Hapga-Lloyd vessel was named the best cruise ship and topped a list of 284 ships as ranked in the 2013 Berlitz Complete Guide to Cruising and Cruise Ships.
MS Europa, which also came first in the small ships category, was followed in the main table by SeaDream I and SeaDream II, with these vessels claiming the top two spots in the boutique category.
Seabourn made waves in both the boutique and small ships category, claiming three of the top ten places in each of these fields.
In the mid-size ships category, the plaudits went to Crystal Serenity, closely followed by Oceania Cruises’ Riveria and Crystal Symphony in second and third place respectively.
The Berlitz review system was devised by British cruise expert and author Douglas Ward and takes into account 400 points and covers almost all the world’s ocean going ships.
The new edition of Berlitz Complete Guide to Cruising and Cruise Ships will be published as an e-book on September 15th 2012, the first time it has appeared in this format.
A printed version of the guide will follow on October 1st and both editions promise to offer readers an insight into the world of cruising, as well as some money saving tips.
The book also includes a guide to cruise safety, something which ward believes has been improved greatly in recent years.
“If I had to single out two examples of cruise lines that go the extra mile over safety, it would be Crystal Cruises and MSC Cruises, who both pay a lot of attention to safety training and to providing excellent onboard medical care,” Ward said.
