Highlights from Australian Gourmet Traveller’s Inaugural Cruising Special

According to the latest figures from the Cruise Lines International Association, more than one million Australians took a cruise in 2014 and annual growth sits at 20 per cent,” said Loucas Bosha. “And according to Ann Sherry, the executive chair of Carnival Australia, more than two million Australians will take a cruise by 2020.”

Sherry’s prediction is bold, but according to Loucas Bosha she’s “called it.” Australia is head over heels with cruising, and growth is only set to continue as leading lines start to expand their Australian presence. Plus, the nation has an intrinsic connection with the ocean, which according to Sherry, plays a central role in Australia’s love for cruising.

“I think part of the reason for cruising’s growth is that we’re a coastal nation, and Australians have a great affinity with the sea,” said Sherry.

Cruise connoisseurs chime in

The issue featured the crème de la crème of Australia’s travel journalists, including Brian Johnston with commentary on the fine dining trend, Louise Goldsbury with a curated countdown of her top 30 cruises and Susan Kurosawa with a quiz on all things cruising.
