Carnival Cruise Line has never been one to shy away from its social responsibilities, founding its in-house Carnival Foundation that supports the company’s myriad of philanthropic efforts. Over the past five years the line has donated more than US$30 million to the cause, and now it’s building on its efforts with the launch of a new partnership with The Children’s Hospital at Westmead. Every year, the hospital provides care and clinical services to 80,000 sick and injured children, and is celebrated as the largest paediatric research centre in New South Wales. And now, Carnival is on-board!
The new charity partnership will invite all Australian based Carnival cruise passengers to take part in a special “Wiggle for Westmead” top deck dance party. 100% of donations will be channelled back to the hospital, with “Wiggle for Westmead” packs costing just $15. In return, attendees receive a t-shirt, wrist band and of course, an unmissable chance to dance up a storm.
A long term commitment to the kids
Carnival Cruise Line Vice President Australia Jennifer Vandekreeke comments that the dance parties are just the beginning of a relationship that will see the line support the hospital in a variety of different ways.
“Our teams onshore and on-board in Australia are thrilled and proud to be partnering with The Children’s Hospital at Westmead and we’re looking forward to helping our guests and crew feel good, by doing good,” she said.
It’s a cause close to Vandekreeke’s heart, as she recently visited The Children’s Hospital at Westmead and was touched by the courage and positivity of the staff, the patients and their families.
“It is an extraordinary organisation filled with everyday superheroes focused on the health, wellbeing and happiness of some courageous kids and their families, and we feel honoured to be able to partner with them… At Carnival, we include fun in everything we do and with this partnership we’ll strive to bring a bit of fun into the lives of everyone at the hospital.”
A life changing initiative
Gilly Paxton, the hospital’s Director of Community Relations and Marketing gushes that the partnership is a wonderful initiative, with the power to change lives.
“We can’t wait to see holidaymakers get involved. The support means so much to patients and families during what often is one of the most challenging times of their lives. We are so grateful and excited to be working with Carnival Cruise Line to bring a little more joy to our patients and families,” said Paxton.
