Cruise Holiday Travel Guide: Rhodes

The Greek Island of Rhodes is one of Europe’s most popular tourist destinations with good reason. It has a combination of fascinating history and beautiful views – and its located near many other great places to visit.

You can see the latest deals on cruises visiting Rhodes on our Greece cruise deals page. In the meantime, here’s why you should make sure Rhodes is a stop on your next European cruise.

About Rhodes

Rhodes is one of the southernmost Greek islands, just off the south coast of Turkey. Its location makes it ideal for cruises visiting Turkey, the Greek mainland and other places located around the Mediterranean Sea.

The island has a rich history that makes it an ideal spot for history buffs and architecture fans alike. There are plenty of historical sights and monuments, including The Acropolis of Rhodes, Ancient Kamiros, the Archaeological Museum of Rhodes and the castles at Monolithos, Kritinia and Felakos.

Rhodes has its fair share of natural beauty, too. The stunning Valley of Butterflies is inhabited by a large number of butterflies at the end of the wet season (round about May). Then there’s the lush greenery of Seven Springs, the rocky Anthony Quinn Bay, and various mountains providing excellent walking paths.

And there’s also a thriving nightlife if you’re that way inclined. Bars and clubs stay open into the early hours, with both locals and foreign visitors partying the night away together.

Last but not least, there’s the fantastic Rhodes cuisine. The traditional Ouzeries offer a taste of authentic Greek mezedes, while the various tavernas offer a more comfortable and laid-back dining experience. You’ll also find gourmet cuisine representing different areas of the globe – you’ll never run out of options, for sure.

Cruise lines currently offering trips that visit Rhodes include Celebrity Cruises, Royal Caribbean Cruises and Holland America Line.
