About Athens

Greece’s capital, Athens is a thriving modern city that also happens to be a hotbed of culture. Alongside fine dining and some great places to shop, you’ll also find stunning ancient monuments and museums showcasing the city’s great history.

A top place to visit for most people is Parthenon, an ancient temple that has served many purposes in its time – it has been a treasury and even a Christian church. It’s perhaps the most iconic reminder of Greece’s illustrious history.

The National Archaeological Museum is also a must-see, holding a huge collection of Greek antiquities dating back to pre-history. This is just one of many fascinating museums in the city.

The National Garden of Athens is a great place to get away from the bustle of the city and the busier tourist spots. There are more than 500 species of trees and plants there, and it’s completely free of charge to visit.

Cruise lines currently offering trips that visit Athens include Cunard, Holland America Line and Norwegian Cruise Line.
