Marmaris is located towards the south west of Turkey, close to the Greek island of Rhodes and facing out onto the Mediterranean Sea. It has become a popular port as it is conveniently placed for cruises also visiting Cyprus, Israel, Egypt and other places near Mediterranean Europe.
The first thing many people will do here is go for a walk on the beach front – a long walk where most of the action is during the day. It’s lined with bars, restaurants and cafes, and the beach has plenty of sunbeds if you feel like soaking up some sun.
One of the most popular attractions in Marmaris is the Dancing Fountains, where you’ll see light shows projected onto the spray of water fountains. These aren’t like any light shows – you’ll see stories projected onto the spray. Many visitors to Marmaris consider this a must-see.
Also popular are the Marmaris mountains. The views over the coastline are beautiful – either drive through the area for a relaxing journey or stop and take a walk around.
It’s a beautiful area that feels very different to the bustling city of Istanbul or the party towns on the west coast of Turkey.
