Cruise Holiday Travel Guide: Salerno

Make Salerno a destination on your next cruise with Cruise 1st Australia. We’ve got a range of fantastic deals available on our Europe cruise deals page.

In the meantime, read on to find out more about Salerno and some of the other destinations you’ll find on our European cruises.

About Salerno

On first impressions, Salerno might come across as a typical big city, but there is actually plenty to separate it from the usual Italian destinations like Rome, Venice and Naples. The city is full of character, with medieval churches alongside trendy wine bars and cobbled streets alongside modern restaurants.

A recent urban regeneration programme, overseen by the same person who worked on Barcelona’s urban makeover, means this is really quite a pleasant place to spend some time.

And there are plenty of attractions to keep you occupied during your time here. Salerno’s cathedral is a magnificent sight, considered by many to be the most beautiful medieval church in the country. Meanwhile the Museo Pinacoteca Provinciale is a must-see for all art enthusiasts, housing art from the Renaissance period all the way up to the mid-20th century.

The Castello (Castle) di Arechi is another highlight, towering above the city around 260m above the main city. It was built in the 8th century and stands as a reminder of the city’s rich history.
