Cruise Holiday Travel Guide: Salalah

If there’s one place you hadn’t considered as a destination on your next cruise, it may very well be Salalah, Oman. But if you did think of it, well done – you’ve found a hidden gem amongst the more popular places to visit.

You can find deals on cruises visiting Salalah and other great destinations on our Greece cruise deals page.

About Salalah

Salalah is a fascinating place – its subtropical location leading to constant drizzle in the monsoon (‘khareef’) months of June, July and August. Nonetheless, it’s still fine to visit at this time of year – in fact, it’s when the Khareef Festival is held. The Khareef Festival sees a huge range of cultural and sporting events, concerts and shopping promotions descend upon the city.

A popular attraction here is Al Mughsail beach, a long stretch of beach alongside rocky mountains. It’s a bit of a journey outside the city, but it’s well worth a visit.

Meanwhile the Sumhuram Old City is a must-see for lovers of history, archaeology or just those who like to get a real understanding of the place. Here you’ll find historic ruins that provide a real feel of ancient Salalah.

Sultan Qaboos Mosque is a great place to visit for fans of architecture, while other popular visiting spots include the Museum of the Frankincense Land, Museum Salalah and Taqah Castle.

Other locations you’ll have the opportunity to visit on a Salalah cruise include Dubai, Phuket, Singapore, Athens, Istanbul and many more.
