Cruise Holiday Travel Guide: Muscat

The fascinating city of Muscat, Oman is a regular feature on our range of Dubai & Emirates cruise deals. You’ll find some of the latest offers here.

In the meantime, keep reading to find out what Muscat is all about, and what you’ll be able to do there.

About Muscat

Oman might not be one of the first places you’d imagine visiting on a luxury cruise, but capital city Muscat is well worth a visit. The city has a fascinating history, being part of the Persian, Portuguese and Ottoman Empires in the past. As such there are plenty of interesting sights and tours to enjoy during your time here.

The port district of Muttrah, and Old Muscat with its Portuguese forts, beautiful mosques and Arabian architecture are particular highlights. Further inland the commercial centre of Muscat, Ruwi, is the place you’ll feel the real beating heart of the city, with neon lights and street sellers around until the early hours.

There are plenty of activities to get involved in here, from snorkelling to shopping to clubbing if you’re so inclined. And you’ll find no shortage of great restaurants – the city’s cosmopolitan past means there’s plenty of traditional Omani, Indian, Iranian, Moroccan and even Italian places to eat.

Cruise lines visiting Muscat include Celebrity Cruises and Royal Caribbean Cruises.
