What are WOWbands?

As the smartest and most technologically advanced cruise ship on the planet it comes as no surprise that Royal Caribbean’s Quantum of the Seas is packed full of cutting edge technology. When the finished product launched in mid-November cruise enthusiasts couldn’t wait to try out all the revolutionary new features. One of the most unique additions was the presence of WOWbands, a concept pioneered by Royal Caribbean’s team of tech gurus. What are they exactly?

But first…

If you’re not familiar with Royal Caribbean’s Quantum of the Seas, take a look at this video before reading more about WOWbands.

What is a WOWband?

The name sounds impressive but what exactly is a WOWband? They are essentially wearable Radio Frequency Identification (RDIF) bracelets manufactured exclusively for use on Royal Caribbean’s Quantum class ships. They are crafted using silicone – this makes them durable, waterproof and comfortable. As for their function? With just one tap WOWbands help passengers to navigate the ship, carry out on-board transactions, enter staterooms and access the brand new Royal iQ app.

How much do they cost?

The great news is that Royal Caribbean WOWbands are now 100% free for all Quantum class passengers! While they were previously priced at $2 each, the line made the decision to treat all passengers to complimentary bracelets in order to make the cruising experience as seamless as possible.  It also makes things significantly easier for on-bard staff who try their very best to ensure the voyage runs as smoothly as possible. For passengers wishing to customise their look WOWbands will also be available to purchase from onboard stores in an array of unique colours and designs.

If you can’t get enough of Royal Caribbean’s next generation technology why not head over to Cruise 1st and secure yourself a place onboard a Quantum of the Seas voyage? As well as experiencing the ultra-convenient perks of a WOWband you can also marvel at robotic bartenders, virtual balconies, a RipCord by iFly skydiving simulator, FlowRider surf machine and more!
