Spotlight on Starbucks at Sea!

Every coffee fan is familiar with the iconic Starbucks logo, a siren with flowing hair, stencilled in shades of green and white. For your personal pleasure, here’s a little history explaining where she came from, and the role she plays in reflecting the brand’s strong Seattle seaport roots.

“Suddenly, there she was: a 16th century Norse woodcut of a twin-tailed mermaid, or Siren. There was something about her – a seductive mystery mixed with a nautical theme that was exactly what the founders were looking for. A logo was designed around her, and our long relationship with the Siren began,” explains an in-house Starbucks blogger.

From Seattle to the high seas

The very first Starbucks store threw open its doors in 1971, at Seattle’s historic Pike Place Market. Now, the global coffee goliath operates more than 23,500 stores across the world, including branches on Royal Caribbean cruise ships. In a partnership between the two keynote companies, Royal Caribbean cruise passengers can now enjoy the freshly ground aromas of Starbucks coffee, at-sea.

Kiosks feature on the line’s ultra-luxurious Oasis class cruise ships, which means passengers sailing on Oasis of the Seas, Harmony of the Seas and Allure of the Seas can enjoy a cup of coffee with the Starbucks seal of approval. Not to worry if you’re sailing on Quantum class cruise ships (Quantum of the Seas, Ovation of the Seas & Anthem of the Seas), as the same coveted Starbucks coffee is served up from La Patisserie. For all other ships, get your siren inspired caffeine fix from Cafe Promenade or Latte-tudes.

How does it work?

So how can you wrap your hands around a piping hot Starbucks brew? All Starbucks beverages can be charged to passenger SeaPass accounts, while freestanding kiosks also accept gift cards. For passengers who plan on getting a daily fix (or three!) the unlimited drinks package option is a good call.

As for what’s available… Royal Caribbean’s Starbucks at Sea branches serve up a kaleidoscope of the brand’s most popular beverages. From double strength Americanos and creamy cappuccinos to fragrant Tazo chai lattes and indulgent hot chocolates, there’s something for every sea-bound Starbucks lover!
