The third addition to Royal Caribbean’s Quantum class is here. Ovation of the Seas arrived in Australia this year, joining Quantum of the Seas and Anthem of the Seas in the second largest class of passenger ships. Read on and we’ll take a look at the best bits of what the ship has to offer.
The ship, which cost around one billion US dollars, will have its homeport in Sydney for the summer of 2016-17 and 2017-18 it has been announced. The popularity of the sailings has prompted Royal Caribbean to extend the summer season to late February 2017 and repeat the Australian venture the following year.
“We are delivering Australians the most modern style of cruising from their doorstep – a style they previously had to travel overseas for. Australia has asked for more and we will deliver; four more cruises, a return at the end of 2017, and more opportunities to experience a brand new era of cruising on Ovation of the Seas, purpose-built for the Asia Pacific market,” said Adam Armstrong, managing director at Royal Caribbean Australasia.
At over 167 tonnes, Ovation of the Seas is the third largest cruise ship in the world. It has a maximum occupancy of 4,905 passengers and it’s thought it will add nearly 60,000 beds to the Australian cruise market with its planned programs. As well as being huge, Ovation offers an abundance of unique experiences at sea:
- Ripcord – A unique at-sea skydiving experience
- North Star – An glass viewing pod nearly 100 metres in the air for amazing views
- SeaPlex – the indoor sports and entertainment complex with everything from bumper cars to a circus school. It’s the biggest of its kind at sea.
- Two70 – A next-level entertainment venue with dancing Roboscreens
- Bionic Bar – A unique experience where your drink is prepared and served by robotically
Add to this the culinary abundance, and you’ve got one incredible ship. With 18 restaurants, including Wonderland and Jamie’s Italian, passengers really are spoilt for choice.
