Quantum of the Seas Sets New Standard for On-Board Extravagance

Royal Caribbean is taking cruising to a whole new level with the launch of its newest and most extravagant member of the fleet, Quantum of the Seas.

Quantum boasts world first on-board experiences

Currently nearing completion in a German shipyard, the 4,180 passenger premium ocean liner plays host to a collection of elaborate entertainment options. These include a skydiving simulator, dodgems and a glass encased observation pod offering sweeping 360 degree views over the open ocean.

Asian cruise market is in for a treat

Quantum will begin its service in New York until May 2015 when then the luxury vessel will be relocated to Shanghai. Stationed in the bustling Chinese port, Quantum will offer passengers three to eight night cruises calling at Japan and Korea. The transfer to Shanghai comes in light of the thriving Asian cruise market scene, Dominic Paul, UK-based vice president of Royal Caribbean International explaining “We will deploy our ships where the demand is, with the expectation of winning new converts.” Quantum joins its fellow fleet members Mariner of the Seas and Voyager of the Seas in servicing Asian waters.

US passengers may be feeling a little neglected with Quantum’s sister ship, Anthem of the Seas scheduled to set sail next spring from Europe. The line’s second largest vessel, Allure of the Seas is also being re-stationed from the Caribbean to the Mediterranean.

The ship reshuffles represent a growing global market for cruise holidays, not just in Asia but also throughout Europe and the Mediterranean.
