Holland America Line to host top chef Sean Connolly


Holland America have confirmed their Culinary Arts Center will host chef Sean Connolly in November 2013

The company will host Chef Sean Connolly onboard ms Oosterdam between the 10th and 24th of November 2013.  The ship will depart from Auckland, New Zealand before arriving in Sydney, Australia 15 days later.  The ship will visit the ports of Napier, Wellington, Akaroa and Dunedin.  Guests will experience Fiordland National Park, Hobart and Melbourne too.

About Sean Connolly:

Sean Connolly is a celebrity chef from Yorkshire in the United Kingdom. He has won a collection of top awards and accolades, including the 2008 Chef of the Year award from the Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide Awards and the Chef of the Year title from the GQ Man of the Year Awards 2008.

In 2009. Sean hosted the 13-part series of SBS’s “My Family Feast”, dubbed as a “loving celebration of Australia’s food and family life.” The show was extremely popular in the country, winning the title of “Best TV Show” at the 2010 Australian Food Media Awards.

After enjoying great success, Connolly travelled to New Zealand in 2011 to team up with Skycity Auckland, where he opened a multi-million dollar restaurant called “The Grill by Sean Connolly.”  This was accompanied by a 6-part TV documentary called “Under the Grill”.  It captured Sean’s journey – he had $4 million to spend and a 100 day deadline to build a world-class restaurant from scratch.  The thrilling TV show was enjoyed by many!

Since, Connolly’s restaurant has received rave reviews – it even won Best Restaurant at the New Zealand Cuisine Awards in 2012.

The Culinary Arts Center is a venue designed to be a “world-class show kitchen at sea”. They are designed to resemble the show kitchens used by celebrity TV chefs on cooking programmes.

Those looking to try a fun and enriching culinary activity during their cruise holiday can partake in a range of food- and drink-related programmes.  The Culinary Arts Center (which is in association with Food & Wine Magazine) can be found on all 15 the cruise line’s ships. The facilities are used to host cooking shows, wine tastings, hands-on cooking classes and mixology presentations.

The Center is designed with the feel of a theatre-style venue: there are two large video screens and a large cooking display counter so audiences can really see what’s going on and enjoy the demonstrations.

The cruise line has booked approximately 60 celebrated chefs and wine experts to sail with the company and use the facilities in 2013.

For youngsters, there’s even a youth programme on select sailings, showing teens and children how to cook.
