Forget Humans! Cunard’s New Look QM2 Features New Pooch Friendly Facilities

Cunard may offer its human passengers an unsurpassed at-sea experience, but that doesn’t mean it has forgotten about its furry four-legged friends. As the industry’s only cruise line to offer dedicated kennels for dogs and cats, Cunard has confirmed that its new-look Queen Mary 2 will feature 10 new lodging spaces when its dry dock is complete. With Cunard kennel spaces frequently selling out, the addition of new kennels opens up even more opportunities for passengers to sail with their companions.

Cunard pioneers VIP pet experience

In a stroke of sentimental genius, Cunard has revealed plans to install a lamp post and fire hydrant in Queen Mary 2’s designated dog recreation area. Amazingly, the pooch friendly accessories are British originals, sourced from right outside the company’s iconic Liverpool HQ building. The additions were first suggested by the Duke of Windsor, and as a line with regal roots, Cunard has taken his comments to heart. Needless to say, pooches will be reliving themselves in style!

So how can pet lovers secure their companions a place on-board upcoming Transatlantic voyages on the Queen Mary 2? First of all, it’s essential to reserve kennel space well in advance. Spots are coveted, so get in quick! Next, owners must obtain a pet passport, an essential travel document that can be secured with the help of a veterinarian. Dogs and cats will also need a recent health certificate, as well as a microchip and rabies vaccinations. Finally, owners will need to be willing to fork out up to $1350 for a one-way pooch passage. It’s not cheap, but it buys pets an incredible on-board experience.

Here are some of the highlights!

  • The royal pet treatment under the watch of a full-time Kennel Master
  • A personalised name tag
  • Ultra-soft fleece blankets
  • Premium pet food
  • Fresh baked gourmet pet-friendly cookies
  • Access to a VIP recreation area on Deck 12

While pets have received their fair share of attention during the QM2 revamp, the luxury ship will also be debuting a host of exciting new features. This includes the addition of 15 cabins for solo travellers, 30 new balcony cabins and stunning new look interiors, across the ship.
