Central America Cruise Deals

Central America is famously rich in history, culture and diversity, with many natural wonders along the way in the itinerary of most cruises. The ancient ruins of the Mayan civilisation, stunning sandy beaches and an exciting Spanish atmosphere are nestled among the fantastic colonial architecture Central America has to offer. Many cruise lines include fantastic destinations such as the Mexican Riviera, the Caribbean and the Panama Canal on their Central American cruise itinerary.

Some of the most fascinating ports along the Central American coast include the Costa Rican ports of Limon and Puntarenas, where visitors should be on the lookout for monkeys in the Tortuguero National Park, which was originally created to protect the endangered Green Turtle. A great way to get the best out of the scenery is to take a trip on the fantastic Rainforest Aerial Tram. The cuisine here is also worth trying, with many attractive seaside restaurants serving local specialities such as ceviche de corvine, which is a fish cocktail marinated in lime juice. Something not to be missed on a cruise to Central America.

Near the Belize border you will find the beautiful Costa Maya, a specially created cruise port, where the quaint square offers a variety of shops and an entertaining open air theatre. Visitors can enrol in a class to learn how to make the local crafts, and there is even a guacamole making lesson. Surrounding the area are all manner of jungles, coastal dunes, wetlands and superb coral reefs, as well as a handful of sites of interest to those familiar with the ancient Mayan civilisation. These can be seen by getting involved in one of the many shore excursions, such as a visit to the Chacchoben Mayan Ruins and the remains of what is believed to be a lost Mayan city. Arguably most exhilarating of all is the opportunity to go quad biking through the jungle along the Yucatan Peninsula.

Another destination on many a cruise to Central America is Guatemala, which has developed a reputation as one of the most exciting eco-tourism destinations in the world. Visitors can marvel at the natural beauty and wildlife of the country, with coastal plains, lakes, mountains, volcanoes and valleys housing hundreds of species of birds and a staggering six hundred types of orchid. The ruins at Tikal are the most impressive of all the Mayan sites you will come across, while a relaxing boat trip to Les Escobas Springs Reserve will further reward you with a stroll around the Garifuna settlement town of Livingston.

Further stops on your Central America cruise may include El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama, each offering their own unique culture, history and wildlife, while guests can also participate in diving and other water sports along the way.
